I am very much influenced by the Dadaists. I respect their freedom and disregard for the laws of art. Modernism was influenced so much after that point, with the rejection of art, testing artistic boundaries ect. And I believe the same thing is happening right now with Covid, or at least within my own work.
I believe the nonsensical is born from chaos... As Dada was brought on by war, I see an embrace for freedom during Covid. I have embraced my abstract side, wanting to be weird and not to be trapped by the expectations for my art to be beautiful or realistic.
With Dada, their event was the First World War that brought the chaos, and their enemy was the bourgeoisie and everyone that wasn't them. With myself, the event of chaos is COVID19, and the enemy is no-one but myself. In a way, I am doing what the Dadaists never did, which was to scrutinize themselves, along with their enemies.
Like Raoull Haussman, who judged the public's mechanical mindset, I too am doing the same with myself. I have become a machine, producing what others have wanted from me and not art that just made me happy.
