Art Review Magazine: Larry Archiampong

Art Review Magazine Vol72 no5: Larry Archiampong.

'Reliquary conceptual Imagery #1' 2020

This is a character that is completely its own. For me this image reminds me of daydreaming. An escapism we have all adopted since Covid hit.

This women stands in a space suit, shielded off from reality, yet she looks so strong. She is a fantasy character, decked out in all the latest gear... yet she still wears sandals on her feet.

"so much of life feels slow lately (...) I'm traumatized at the immanent dangers we face. All of a sudden so many of the comics or videogames I've consumed feel even more prophetic to what is happening now."

This is very true, Covid has affected us all, there is no denying it. And we all have had to find ways of coping with it.

This person had found peace and comfort in games, a place beyond reality... I have found it in the adoption of the abstract.

However, like Archiampong, I too find myself disassociating with reality. I spent half of my time on this planet reading, watching films, playing games... ALL a way of wishing I was somewhere else.... somewhere better.

I too dream of travelling through space... and I would think we ALL dream of a better life. Now more than ever, which is worrying... as if we are all unhappy and wanting more.... than is this place we call life in fact good? Or perhaps not, perhaps we are in Hell.
